What is a pocket neighborhood

A pocket neighborhood is a collection of homes which are nested together and centered on a shared open space. According to Ross Chapin, one of the first architects to realize the need for this type of community and a pioneer in pocket neighborhoods, “It’s about design that cultivates healthy neighborly connections, while preserving personal privacy”.

Why live in a pocket neighborhood

Traditional subdivisions are made up of large houses with similar façades, 2 car garages with a public street out front, and a private yard in the rear. Most often, owners come and go in anonymity. The unique design of a pocket neighborhood fosters a sense of belonging- homes that encourage people to spend time with one another rather than pull in and pull out. We’re getting ready to open the Model Home!

Much has changed since we first broke ground in July.  Water mains have been upgraded, electrical lines run, and the natural gas has been brought in.  Follinsbee Lane, named after one of the founding families of West Newbury, has been cut in and will soon be framed by sidewalks, picket fences, and homes bursting with charm.  The entrance is adorned with stately stone walls and the landscaping has just been completed around the model home, the Brinley Cottage, which is getting its hardwood flooring, tiles, and final coat of paint. 20141108_121725 20141113_160501   Across the street, the Abbott Cottage, is now framed and the siding is going on.  It is tucked into the hillside which makes a beautiful private deck in the rear and has unobstructed views of the sweeping landscape which is enjoyed from the wrap front porch.  Next door, the Port Cottage is being framed, and we are getting ready to pour the foundation of a 4th model, the Durgin Cottage.  Contact us today for floor plans and cottage locations! 2 Follinsbee Lane, The Abbott Cottage
